Finding Your Perfect Workspace Chair

Is sitting comfortable or dangerous?

They say “sitting is the new smoking.” Apparently, many of us are spending too much time on our bottoms these days!

Of course, smoking was once promoted by doctors (hard to imagine now!), so who knows what future generations will say about chairs…

Anyway — I’m not here to stir controversy on this Monday morning.

Finding Your Ideal Sitting Position

While the debate about sitting continues, what we do know is that how you sit matters just as much as how long you sit. A good working position can make all the difference between ending your day energized or ending it with a sore back.

The key elements? Your feet should rest flat on the floor, your knees at a 90-degree angle, and your screen at eye level so you’re not craning your neck. Your lower back needs support (that lumbar curve is important!), and your arms should rest comfortably with your elbows close to your body. Take a look at the images for How to Sit

But here’s the thing: no single “perfect” position exists, because no single chair works for everyone. Some people swear by ergonomic office chairs, while others prefer the active engagement of a balance ball or kneeling chair.

Our Seating Philosophy at DeskSpace

That’s exactly why we currently have 9 different types of seating options at DeskSpace, plus two standing desks — no chairs required. From traditional office chairs to more alternative options, we believe in giving you choices so you can find what works for your body. Take a look at the DeskSpace Coworking Interior for more pictures of the desks – and general feel of the place.

Our most recent addition is the chair with an armrest. We’ve put it with the MEGA DESK – but some of our more “senior” guests at our community events have found it useful.

The bottom line? Listen to your body, change positions regularly, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

And if none of our current options suit you perfectly? Tell us what kind of chair we should get next!

We’ve written a guide to coworking but also check out our blog to create your perfect soundscape (background noise or music?).
